I recall my first serious interaction with the Teachers Association was when two members of my church had been unjustly fired as teachers after working for San Bernardino City Unified School District for over 20 years. They had been relieved of their duties which included their retirement and all other benefits. I walked door to door inquiring about these teachers with parents and students, there were no negative reports against these teachers. Together, I and other community members addressed the Board and the teachers were reinstated with full benefits and tenure. It was at that time the Teachers Association asked me to run for office, I agreed. I have been endorsed and supported by the teachers association for the past five times I have been elected. I won my first election as the top vote getter and in my first year I found 40 million dollars.
