Working Together with California Teacher's Association

I recall my first serious interaction with the Teachers Association was when two members of my church had been unjustly fired as teachers after working for San Bernardino City Unified School District for over 20 years. They had been relieved of their duties which included their retirement and all other benefits. I walked door to door inquiring about these teachers with parents and students, there were no negative reports against these teachers. Together, I and other community members addressed the Board and the teachers were reinstated with full benefits and tenure. It was at that time the Teachers Association asked me to run for office, I agreed. I have been endorsed and supported by the teachers association for the past five times I have been elected. I won my first election as the top vote getter and in my first year I found 40 million dollars. Raising the Minimum Wage

President Obama just signed an Executive Order to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers to $10.10. He had to use the Executive Order because House Republicans would not vote to raise the minimum wage for all hardworking Americans. When I am  elected to Congress I will make it a priority to fight for working Americans and raise the minimum wage to ensure a higher standard of living . California, as one of the most progressive states in the Union, has raised the minimum wage to $9.00 an hour effective January 1, 2014 and $10.00 an hour effective January 1, 2016. I will not stop there, I will continue to work with our Unions to ensure the middle class catches up to the economy's cost of living. I will fight to increase the minimum wage to a true living wage.
