When I saw the two tweets above cruise through my Twitter TL, I was like "WTF did the constituents of the 31st Congressional District miss out on a Town Hall?" But as I searched for Rep. Gary Miller's congressional calendar, I did not find a calendar or any announcements. Seeing this, I immediately thought of the movie Dodgeball, which is apt because both sides have been using popular culture to attack each other.
I think Rep. Gary Miller is using the Patches O'Houlihan approach and applying it to scheduling Town Halls for the residents of the 31st. These techniques are: Dodge, Dip, Dive, Duck, and Dodge.
1. Dodge
Dodge any questions about immigration reform, why congress voted to repeal Obamacare 40 times, or his No-Vote on the Stupak Amendment and Violence Against Women Act.
2. Dip
Dip any questions on why his positions are still in line with Conservative Republicans, when the 31st is D+7 and 60% voted for President Barack.
3. Dive
Dive any questions about why the meaning of bi-partisan compromise only comes when Democrats have to move to the Conservative position, but not the other way around. Or simply, Does he support the Hastert Rule?
4. Duck
Duck any questions on why his town halls are not publicly scheduled or using someone else as a front man.
5. Dodge
Dodge any questions about the pathway to citizenship for immigrants.
I know he's scared, after what happened to Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy, it would take some intestinal fortitude to have a public town hall instead of friendly faces in friendly places. But, with approx. 21 days left I have confidence that at least one town hall will be scheduled.
