The lack of a commitment to Progressive Values is one of the major reason I do not support Pete Aguilar to be my representative for the 31st Congressional District. Time and time again he has had opportunity to represent these values on the Redlands city council and he has failed.
The SEIU endorses Mayor Pete Aguilar, but do they know his record for opposing a living wage?
He has shown acute disdain for environmental policies. He elicited Republican support for Measure I and scoffed at the Sierra Club. In addition, he chose short term economic growth over the inevitable extinction of the Sucker Fish. How can we trust Mr. Aguilar on issues such as the the Keystone XL Pipeline, if he can’t defend the environment locally.
He also shows disdain for local Democrats, while he chases dollars from Republicans. Where was he during the 2008 and 2010 election season? What support and help has he given local Democrats in his quest for power?
Only after constant perseverance from Occupy Redlands (and maybe a slight concern to cover his left flank), did Mr. Aguilar put the resolution on the ballot that states that corporations are not people.
It is amazing to me that this non-inspirational candidate has gotten so far, with no one challenging his record. This is a sad testament to the Democrats of the Inland Empire, whose birth pangs are just now beginning to show green shoots.
This man will get elected and move the Inland Empire and the nation further to the extremist Right and that is a fact.
I wonder if Mr. Valles ponders the fact that only Pete Aguilar has a voting record to compare with since he's the one who has actually been elected to office. Has Renea even been on the PTA? How is Renea Wickman claiming to be the President of the Inland Black Pastors and Reverend's Alliance and progressive at the same time?
ReplyDeleteI do, but I also look at the historics of his record as well. Being a minority vote isn't always bad when defending Democratic Principles.
DeleteBeing a coward on the issues has always been the problem as Democrats in this area. In addition to lacking organization.
I have known Mrs. Wickman since 2008. We worked on the Obama campaign together and her State Assembly race.
Our mission was to build clubs around San Bernardino County to help Democrats get elected, even in the most conservative of cities. That is why we helped build the Chino Valley Democratic Club, when no one else would. Irene Hernandez-Blair was pleading for help from the Central Committee, and no one in leadership gave it to her. Ms. Wickman and I assisted Ms. Hernandez-Blair and now she has her own club.
This is the type of leadership that I am lookiing for when choosing a candidate. Not some self-serving Johnny come lately, that thinks he can come in flash some cash and then get our votes. This type of political hustling belong in the Amos Young Jr. category.
As of today...Predictions for June (in order of number of votes rec'd)

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched my friend. Mr. Miller's focus has been purely on the West End. He might send some artillery (phone banks and mailer) out East, but without a ground game out East he is sunk because of Mr. Dutton's name recognition. Why do you think almost all the candidate on the Republican side focused on Redlands in 2010? Morrell lost in 2008 to Emmerson because of his sole focus on the Rancho Cucamoga.
ReplyDeleteOn the Dem Side. Don't count Mrs. Wickman out yet. I think she will do better than you think.
